This would also create a dynamic where intelligent players will hunt players who they know are high rank, or have a high item level, making it even more competitive to remain at the highest ranks. What was their rank compared to yours? What was their item level compared to yours? (Players could grief by dropping all their items right as theyre about to die, so id suggest making it based on whatever the highest item level they had in the game was). You could gain more rank by having more kills perhaps, but winning the game and gaining no rank is almost as lame as it was before, where you could win and actually lose rank.Įdit: Also, the quality of your kills should factor into how much you gain from them. A win is always a win though, even if you only go up a tiny bit at least make it worth something. Conversely, if most of the players are new, only a win would be adequate to gain rank.īasically, the game averages the rank of everyone in the lobby and uses that to determine how likely any given player is to win, and gives/takes rank accordingly. If you're a diamond player in a lobby made up of 90% grand champion players for instance, you should certainly gain rank for placing in the top 5. I think there should be a system in each match that adds up the ranks of all your opponents, and uses that to determine how much rank you aught to win or lose based on your performance. I am by no means a mathematician or a game designer so take my ideas with a pinch of salt, but I do have a few thoughts on how the ranking system could be improved.

Why are players being punished for playing smart? The goal of the game is to be the last man standing, kills are secondary. Otherwise it's just a battle to win the game in order to NOT lose rank, and its really lame.Ī win is a win, I don't care if they win by stealing the last kill and it's the only kill they got. But the only way for me to gain ranks at this level is to play hyper aggressive and hunt as many kills as possible, and then win the game. I play passive when I think it's optimal to be passive, and vice versa. I wouldn't call myself a defensive player, but I would call myself a tactical player. I'm currently grand champion 11th in OCE and I can get win after win and get no rating change, because my rating has got to the point where just winning is not enough to gain elo, I also need to get a bunch of kills (I'm not sure exactly how many I need yet but my last win I had 4 kills and still no rating change).
